I had a good friend in college who liked to meet around meals. Check your schedule for an upcoming month, and pick two weeks where you have no events planned. Or, you can decide to hide your bank card for two weekends out of the month. Two years ago, I set a three-week timeframe for a June spending fast. But who knows how much I saved as I declined offers to movies, shopping, and eating out. If you have cable, pick a popular show that you know all of your friends watch, and invite them over for the showing. If not, host a Netflix night so you can re-watch Fuller House or gear up for the new season of Orange is the New Black. But then again, who really wants to watch others eat while attempting to stifle the groans of your stomach? Opt for getting in a quick meal between class or work and the gathering. In fact, this is one of my favorite ways to bond my girls. Raid your pantry and fridge, and enjoy catching up with besties over your favorite to-go snacks. Flexible schedule? Try to arrange a day off to coordinate with a friend, and get into the movie theater for that early matinee. In high school, it was easy to meet people, for they were. Now these days, it is not easy to meet people especially my small town. So the question is how can I meet people and what activies can I go to that do not cost alot of money to meet new people and make friends? As we get older, a lot of times it seems like we stop meeting new people. And when we do meet people, it is through our work and often that is an awkward time to make real friends. My first suggestion is to start where you already are.
Make friends that are semi-connected to your work. I don’t know what you do, but I know that where I work there are the people that are ALWAYS around that I probably wouldn’t want to hang out with after work, but then there are also people that I only see every so.
Try talking to these people. Spend an extra few minutes to say hi and ask them how they are. These small relationships can turn into real friendships if both people are willing to take just a little time and effort.
The other thing to do is to find extra-curricular activities, things that you can do away from work. It may be nerdy, but Yahoo Answers and other online things like this can be a fun opportunity to meet people. Sure, you won’t be going to bars with people online, but it is a time to hear other people’s ideas and have semi-real conversations. Services like internet relay chat are nice for communicating with people you don’t know. And of course, there is real life. I know a lot of people make friends through church.
Is there a university near you? A lot of times colleges will offer a variety of services that are fun and can be social, such as evening classes or recreational type programs organizing hiking, kayaking. Question Is there a way to add friends without spending money? I am trying to get a friend to start playing Dota 2 but i think she will give up when she finds out that you need to pay to add friends.
